Vikram Kulkarni's paintings hold their energies in careful suspension. Working within abstraction, he moves between
the bold and the restrained, the dynamic and the still, finding in the space between them a meditative register that is distinctly his own. Fine lines set against broad strokes, vibrant colour in relationship to more subdued grounds, build surfaces that retain an organic quality even at their most considered. There is something in this practice that echoes the behaviour of natural systems. What his canvases offer is less spectacle than reflection, a personal dialogue between structure and spontaneity that opens gradually to the attentive viewer.
