Umesh Patil
Pate's practice has developed across two registers that inform each other in ways neither fully declares. A graduate of Mumbai's J. J. Institute of Applied Art, he has worked as a Creative Director across India, France and Australia, accumulating a graphic sensibility and an instinct for compositional weight that is legible in the fine art practice alongside it. Questions of place, memory, inwardness and the experience of travel and return belong to a different order of feeling within the same body of work. Solo exhibitions include The Forgotten Bombay and No Parking: An Inner Journey, with group shows at the Guggenheim New York and the Sovereign Art Foundation in Hong Kong.
