Shrikant Kadam's paintings arise from an intimate and sustained engagement with the natural world, one that is physical as much as visual. His years of trekking through varied terrain have given him a particular sensitivity to the seasonal character of landscape, to the shifts in colour, atmosphere and energy that mark one time of year from another. He calls his canvases nature abstracts, and the phrase is precise. The recognisable dissolves as he works, replaced by colour fields in which hues gather in rhythmic harmony, evoking the sensation of being inside a season. His
